What is the French view on sex? How true is the reputation or stereotype of promiscuity?

What I meant by reputation is that they’re very liberal when it comes to their views on sex. I’m not French – so please explain to me. Is it that they view sex to be less symbolic in terms of marriage? Do they view sex more-the-less an enjoyable activity equally for both men and women? Is there similarities between them and the Italian or Spanish in their view on sex?
What does the Qur’an specifically say about « pre-marital sex »? Is sex outside of marriage is sinful?

I am not concerned with adulterous sex (sex with a person in marriage). I am only concerned with sex between two unmarried persons. Please try to explain your answers. I don’t have a copy of the Qur’an on hand so please interpret the verses. Thanks!
